Mercy Investment Services will continue the work of Mercy Partnership Fund, a community investing program begun in 1995. Mercy Partnership Fund is a portfolio of debt and equity investments provided to projects consistent with the Direction Statement and Critical Concerns of the Sisters of Mercy. The investments benefit the economically poor, especially women and children, concentrating on those who are unserved or poorly served through traditional financial sources. The funding recipients are those seeking ways to give beneficiaries an effective voice in the planning and implementation of the project, as well as those who address the multicultural reality of our world.
Investments must meet the social impact and financial criteria of the fund. In order to manage the risk inherent in these investments, the portfolio is diversified by geography, types of organizations, types of investments and levels of risk.
The types of organizations include nonprofits, community development corporations, loan funds, microfinance lenders, credit unions and banks, nonprofit housing developers, and a variety of international funds.
The types of investments include direct loans and loans to intermediaries such as loan funds, certificates of deposit or equity captial.
The Mercy Partnership Fund is guided by the Mercy Partnership Fund Subcommittee. Click here to learn more about the subcommittee and its role within the Social Responsibility Committee.
