The growing problem of human trafficking

Human trafficking is a growing problem, with 800,000 to 900,000 people, mainly women and children, trafficked within or across international borders every year. Fifty thousand people are trafficked into the United States alone. As human trafficking becomes more of a concern, it is essential that we use our investments to make our voice heard on this issue. In the past, the Sisters of Mercy have engaged Wyndham Hotels, an international company with more than 7,000 hotels in 66 countries. As the result of a shareholder resolution filed with other faith-based investors, Wyndham has developed and implemented a human rights policy that is now part of its code of conduct and its employee and franchisee training program, and partnered with the Polaris Project to provide hundreds of free hotel rooms to trafficking victims.
